広島城 / Hiroshima Castle

(広島市)中区基町 / Motomachi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima

Landscape with a castle in the middle of a modern city. Hiroshima has prospered as a castle town. This is a stylish space where the message of "fluidity and immutability" has extended far beyond the era. Hiroshima Castle was constructed by Mouri Terumoto. He was the grandson of Mouri Motonari, a famous feudal lord during the period of civil wars in Japan. It is said that Terumoto was influenced by Osaka Castle (constructed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi) and choose Hiroshima as the construction site because it’s an important point for water and land transportation in his territory. The castle tower was once destroyed by the atomic bomb, but restored externally in 1958, and has been used as the samurai culture museum now.
